High School Staff
English and Math
I have a BA in Special Education from Western Governors University. This will be my second year at Roadrunner. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, ASU 2004; a Master's Degree in Special Education, ASU 2012; and I’m Highly Qualified in Cross Categorical Special Education, High School English. What I like the most about working at Roadrunner is interacting with the kids. Because of the smaller size of our campus, I really enjoy getting to know all the students very well. Every day is a different adventure and it has been a dream come true to come back and teach in the district I graduated from.
My favorite subjects in school have always been Language Arts and English. When I was young, I wanted to play point guard on the Phoenix Suns. Basketball is my favorite sport and I'm still a huge Phoenix Suns fan. I also root for the Cardinals. I have a pit bull mix named Maggie and a cat named Millie. On my free time, I enjoy playing guitar, being outdoors, and walking my dog. I love reading, and I am a big Stephen King fan.

I’m originally from the Oregon Coast, but have lived in Washington (state), New York City, and Alaska. I am a veteran of the Army National Guard, in which capacity I was deployed to New Orleans to help out with the relief effort after Hurricane Katrina. I also spent a year in Afghanistan. I’ve been in Phoenix for about eight years and lived in the PVUSD for the last four.
I have a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Natural Resources Policy from Oregon State University, and completed the Post-Bacc Teaching Certificate-Secondary Education program at Rio Salado College--I did my student teaching at Shea Middle School, and worked as a substitute teacher in the district. This is my first year at Roadrunner.
My teaching specialty is science--I believe that promoting science literacy among the next generation is going to be critical in solving the challenges that lay ahead for our human society and the health of the planet--but I’m very excited to be working with Mr. Ratliff in the Roadrunner English classroom. I’m a novelist, and have authored, co-authored or ghostwritten more than thirty novels, as well as several magazine articles, but I’ve always felt the need to make a meaningful contribution to the community, and helping educate the next generation seems like a great way to do that.

Before coming to Roadrunner I helped students with Reading and math. I believe that every child should be valued and treated with respect. An education should empower a child and help him or her make a positive contribution to our world. I believe that every student comes to school with their own set of knowledge and skills, my goal as a teacher is to meet them where they are and help them be successful.
I moved to Arizona in 2001 after too many cold winters in Wisconsin. While in Wisconsin I worked in the technology department for a large accounting firm. I have been married to my husband Mark since 2005 and we have an eight-year-old son Sam. We also have a crazy one-year-old Golden Doodle named Charlie. Since a very young age, I knew I wanted to become a teacher, after our son Sam was born I decided that I wanted to return to school for my teaching certificate. It has been the best decision in my life.
In my free time I enjoy spending time with our son Sam, reading, biking, hiking, and going to the movies with my friends. One thing I will never turn down is chocolate.

My name is Debbie Harper. I am the high school Behavioral Interventionist. I have worked at Roadrunner School for twenty years. The reason I have stayed here for so long, is because of the exceptional people I work with. I consider myself lucky to be among such an amazing group of dedicated and caring individuals.
I am married to a wonderful man, and have a loving, but rambunctious pitbull dog. In my leisure time I enjoy being in the pool and listening to music. I also really like cooking and hosting parties for my family and friends.
